PUTRAJAYA: Eleven of the country’s new Covid-19 cases on Monday (Sept. 28) are linked to people with a history of travel to Sabah, the Health Ministry says.

In a statement, Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that 10 of those cases were detected in Selangor and one in Terengganu.

Six of Selangor’s cases are linked to a new group, dubbed by the ministry as the “Jalan Apas” group.

Dr. Noor Hisham said the group’s two index cases are a husband, 26, and a wife, 24, who had traveled to Tawau and Semporna from Sept. 13-16.

“Both index cases had symptoms of fever, cough and flu on September 18 and sought treatment on September 19. They were then referred to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang on September 24.

“On September 26 they tested positive for Covid-19 and were admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.

The examination of 66 people who are close contacts of the husband and wife found six more new cases, aged 13 to 60 years.

“Another 56 people tested negative while two others are still waiting for their test results,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.

Sabah has once again recorded the highest number of new Covid-19 infections, with 98 of the country’s 115 new cases on Monday.

Previously, the government announced that an Enhanced Movement Control (MCO) order had been imposed in the Sabah districts of Lahad Datu, Kunak, Tawau and Semporna.

This was after the four districts recorded 1,195 cases between September 1 and 27.

The enhanced MCO goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday (Sept. 29) and the blackout period will last until Oct. 12, with nearly one million residents affected.
