COVID-19 | The Ministry of Health has reported 2,295 new cases of Covid-19 as of noon today.
This is the first time that cases have surpassed the 2,000 mark for three consecutive days.
Selangor had the most cases, while there was an increase in cases in both Johor and Penang.
However, the number of recoveries was even higher at 3,321.
Of the new cases, 135 were from groups linked to cells, prisons and immigration detention centers.
Main indicators:
- Active cases: 22,398 ↓ (1,035 less than the previous day, sixth consecutive day of new registrations)
- ICU patients: 125 ↓ (One less than the previous day, record)
- Intubated patients: 51 ↓ (Three less than the previous day)
- Deaths: 9
The deaths bring the national death toll to 483.
Based on the number of patients, it is likely that five of the deceased have been admitted to the hospital in the last two days at noon on December 31.
As of noon on December 31, there were 113,010 cases in total.
The details of the deceased are as follows:
Patient 90,455: A 73-year-old Malaysian man died at Sungai Buloh Hospital. He had a history of diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, benign prostatic hyperplasia, cataracts, and glaucoma.
Patient 97,077: Malaysian woman, 67, died in Kuala Lumpur Hospital. He had a history of hypertension, cancer, and dyslipidemia.
Patient 101,095: 41-year-old Malaysian woman died at Sungai Buloh Hospital. He had a history of diabetes and obesity.
Patient 112,584: Malaysian male, 82, died at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh. He had a history of chronic obstructive airway disease, dementia, and hearing problems.
Patient 113,247: Malaysian woman, 65, died at Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sandakan. He had a history of diabetes and hypertension.
Patient 114,024: Male from Malaysia, 76, died at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang. He had a history of diabetes, hypertension, and stroke.
Patient 114,025: 66-year-old Malaysian man died in Ampang Hospital. He had a history of tuberculosis.
Patient 114,536: A 72-year-old Malaysian man died at Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital, Seremban. He had a history of diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia.
Patient 115,055: 72-year-old Malaysian male. He died at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital in Kota Bharu. He had a history of diabetes, heart and kidney disease, chronic obstructive airway disease, and peripheral vascular disease.

According to figures from the Selangor Health Department, 49 of the 140 “other screenings” were people who had sought testing after developing symptoms, while seven tested positive after developing a severe acute respiratory infection.
Another 54 were people who tested positive during job evaluation. Three cases were also detected by monitoring health workers.
Four people tested positive during pre-hospital admission screening and another four tested positive during pre-flight screenings.
