Nestlé fines RM90,000 for excessive effluent release

SHAH ALAM: Nestle Manufacturing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd was fined 90,000 ringgit by the Court of Sessions here today for two charges of industrial effluent release in excess of the acceptable limit.

Judge Rofiah Mohamad imposed the fine after the company, represented by its health and safety manager, K Arunan, 47, reversed its guilty plea to both charges.

In imposing the fine, Rofiah said he took into account that environmental pollution is a serious case and involves the public interest.

On the first count, the company was charged pursuant to Regulation 11 (1) (b) of the Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluents) Regulations 2009 with the release of five types of industrial effluents that contain biochemical oxygen demand requirements. that exceed the standard limit in inland waters.

The second was to release the demand requirements for concentrated chemical oxygen in excess of the standard limit in inland waters.

Crimes were then committed at their premises at Jalan Playar 15/1, Section 15 Shah Alam, on May 21, 2019.

The company was fined RM 50,000 for the first charge and RM 40,000 for the second charge.

Selangor Environmental Department Prosecutor, Nor Faizura Mohd Ali prosecuted, while Nestlé Manufacturing was represented by J Rao.
