NILAI: Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the waste dumped along a river in an industrial zone here was brought in from another state.

SAC State Police Deputy Chief Che Zakaria Othman said his officers were already on the trail of those responsible for the incident, which resulted in the closure of the Sungai Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants on Sunday (October 4). ).

“We hope to arrest those responsible at any time now.

“My officers are already in the state in question and they are quite positive,” he said when they gathered at the place where the waste was dumped.

The case is being investigated under section 430 of the Penal Code, he added.

Legislation stipulates that anyone who commits harm that affects human food or water supplies can be imprisoned for between five and 30 years or fined or both upon conviction.

The president of the state commission for the environment, health, cooperatives and consumerism, S. Veerapan, was also present to monitor the clean-up work carried out in the area.

He said that the authorities were awaiting the results of the Department of Chemistry to establish the type of waste dumped.

“The waste was in liquid and semi-solid form and was dumped along the banks of Sg Batang Benar, which flows into Sg Semenyih.

“Weather permitting, we hope to finish the cleanup exercise today,” he said.

Veerapan called on the public to notify the authorities if they come across any spillage from waste-related activities.

“It is difficult to catch them red-handed, as the culprits will choose isolated areas.

“We will also seek to install CCTV in certain areas in an effort to verify such activities,” he added.

As a result of the unscheduled water outage, Air Selangor was unable to produce the 602 liters required to supply water to 309,867 account holders in 274 areas in Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang districts.
