SEREMBAN: Health authorities here have denied the claim of a 31-year-old man that the jewelry his mother was wearing was stolen when she was admitted to the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital to be treated for Covid-19.

State Health Director Datin Dra. Harlina Abdul Rashid said an investigation by Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital showed that its staff had stored the jewelry safely.

“Our investigation showed that the jewelry never went missing.

“In fact, it was returned to the woman’s closest relatives today at 4.30 pm,” he said on Tuesday (January 26).

Dr. Harlina said the woman’s family was satisfied with the hospital’s explanation during a meeting Tuesday night.

The woman’s son had filed a police report on Monday (January 25), claiming that his mother’s jewelry was not returned to the family when they went to collect her remains.

In his report, T. Narenthiran had claimed that his mother was taken to the hospital around 3 pm on Sunday (January 24) after having a fever and breathing difficulties, but died a few hours later.

Narenthiran, who works as a technician in Port Dickson, claimed that he was accompanied by his sister Sharmely.

In his report, he claimed that his mother wore a gold chain or thali that weighed around 30 g and was worth around 7,500 ringgit, earrings worth 1,750 ringgit, three bracelets and a ring.

However, when he went to the hospital to claim his mother’s remains, they only gave him a gold ring.

Narenthiran said in her report that she suspects hospital staff stole her mother’s jewelry.

He also claimed that he was initially given the remains of an unidentified man, instead of his mother.

Narenthiran claimed that his mother’s remains were in another hearse and had been given to another family.

He had urged the police to investigate hospital staff for negligence.

Dr. Harlina said the woman’s remains were turned over to the family after an identification process on Monday.
