GEORGE TOWN: A nasi kandar restaurant in Butterworth had to close after two of its workers tested positive for Covid-19.

They are believed to have been infected by a customer who dined at the establishment two weeks ago.

In a statement released today, Nasi Kandar Jamal Mohamed said that district health officials arrived at the facility on November 13 and took samples from seven of its workers, then ordered them to be quarantined.

Of the seven workers, he said, two tested positive. The restaurant said it would close for an indefinite period to allow for disinfection and close contact tracing.

The Penang Health Department has reported 23 cases of Covid-19 in the Seberang Perai North district, which includes Butterworth, as of yesterday.

There are 1,654 cases in the state with 262 active cases as of yesterday, the department reported.
