PUTRAJAYA: The Department of Immigration has launched the MyTravelPass system, which will make it easier for Malays and foreigners to apply for entry or exit permits during the Covid-19 period. It would reduce the application time to a maximum of five days, said Director General of Immigration Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud.

“Before this, requests to enter or leave the country by Malays and foreigners were made via email.

“The department has been inundated with 5,000 to 6,000 emails a day, causing a delay in applications. We receive many complaints from applicants due to this.

“With that, the Department of Immigration has taken a proactive step in introducing the MyTravelPass system that uses a ‘one-stop shop’.

“This will facilitate the application process,” Khairul Dzaimee told a press conference yesterday.

Currently, Malaysia’s international borders are closed due to

the Covid-19 pandemic and only a select group of categories are exempt, although most of them require prior permission from the Department of Immigration.

Among the categories that can be requested through the MyTravelPass system are entry and exit applications for foreign expatriates and their dependents, permanent residents, holders of My Second Home in Malaysia and foreign maids.

Entry requests for Singapore’s reciprocal green lane and periodic commuting agreement can also be made through the portal.

Khairul Dzaimee said that in the past it would take up to 10 days for applications to be processed.

“Now it is easier to apply. Of course, approval is another matter. Once the request is submitted, an email will be sent to acknowledge receipt.

“Within three to five days, approval or rejection will also be confirmed by email,” he added.

Khairul Dzaimee said the system was developed by the department’s information technology division internally and without using external funds.

He added that for Malaysians and foreigners who are in the categories in which they are allowed to leave or enter the country without permission, they do not need to apply for MyTravelPass.

“People are advised to read and understand the application instructions and procedures before applying through MyTravelPass,” he said.
