PETALING JAYA: Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who posted about his bike accident with a pothole on social media, says he only wanted to alert other road users about the condition of the road.

“My intention in posting the incident on Twitter was to warn other road users, but it seems to have caught the attention of JKR (Department of Public Works),” he said in a statement.

In her tweet on Sunday, Khairy posted photos of her bruised face and a pothole, next to a ditch. He had suffered minor injuries after his bicycle hit the pothole in Banting, Selangor.

In its response, a few hours later, JKR had said that it would take immediate action to repair the pothole and hoped that Khairy would quickly recover from his injuries.

Khairy thanked JKR for his swift action, but warned the department against practicing double standards just because he was a minister.

He said he acknowledged comments from the public, some of whom had expressed hope that he would have an accident on a highway below his areas so potholes could be repaired faster.

“The main problem here is that the pothole problem needs immediate attention,” he said.
