KUALA LUMPUR: The government will endeavor to ensure that development projects in 2020 are fully completed, Prime Minister’s Department Minister (Economic Affairs) Mustapa Mohamed said today.
He said he and the government’s chief secretary would chair a meeting of officials soon to discuss the project’s implementation plans. The meeting would involve various ministries, including the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Works and the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department.
The meeting will also discuss the implementation and follow-up of the 2021 development projects.
He said that the government had allocated RM4 billion under the economic stimulus package for projects implemented by G1 and G2 contractors, while RM2.5 billion was allocated in the 2021 budget for small and medium-scale projects.
“Around 54,000 G1 contractors and 24,000 G2 contractors are expected to benefit,” he said in a statement today.
In a related development, the minister said Malaysia’s gross domestic product had contracted 2.7% in the third quarter of 2020, but noted that the decline was better than Bloomberg’s projection of minus 4%.
“This clearly shows that the nation is on the right path to recovery,” he said, adding that 80.6% of the 64.96 billion ringgit allocated for development spending in 2020 had been used up to November 8.
