KUCHING: Having strict diet plans that require you to monitor your calorie intake has inspired national bodybuilder Awang Mohd Azizul Ghani to open a stand here selling healthy burgers, including his signature salmon burger that has become the talk of the town.

Awang Azizul runs his ‘Muscleman Burger’ stand at Jalan Satok.

The 35-year-old athlete said he decided to open the burger stand after finding it quite difficult to obtain healthy meals at affordable prices.

“To provide customers with healthier option meals, the food is prepared based on the eating habits of professional bodybuilders, focusing on consuming more protein,” he told Bernama.

According to Awang Azizul, one of the most sought-after menu items at his ‘Muscleman Burger’ stand is the salmon burger, whose patties are made from 100 percent Norwegian salmon.

“According to my observation, not many of us can afford to eat salmon as the price is quite expensive; that’s why I came out with the initiative to sell this hamburger, ”he said.

On the customer response, Awang Azizul said that he did not expect his salmon burger, which is only sold on Fridays and Saturdays, to be so well received.

A check from Bernama found customers standing in long lines leading to his booth at Jalan Satok here, which is open from 4pm to 10pm during the current Conditional Motion Control Order period, as they didn’t want to miss out on trying the healthy meals offered there. .

In addition to the salmon burger, Muscleman Burger also sells the ‘Tricep Beef Burger’, ‘Hamstring Hot Dog’ and ‘Whey Protein Benjo’.

Meanwhile, Awang Azizul described 2020 as ‘a gloomy year’ for all athletes, following the postponement and cancellation of many international tournaments due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Many athletes are struggling to maintain good physical condition. I also train as usual on my own and I can’t wait to compete again and represent the country, ”said Awang Azizul, who is also a personal fitness trainer.

The muscleman began representing Malaysia after being crowned the ‘Champion of Champions’ at the Mr Malaysia Bodybuilding Championship in Labuan in 2015, where he competed in the men’s welterweight category (75kg or less).

He also became the first runner-up of the World Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships held in Pattaya, Thailand in 2016; and finished third at the 2017 Asian Bodybuilding and Physical Sports Championships in South Korea. – Bernama
