KOTA KINABALU (Sept. 12): A party chairman missed his chance to compete at the Sabah polls today when he showed up two minutes after nominations closed at 10 am.
Malaysian United People’s Party (MUPP) Acting Chairman Nazry Roy Shuhaidin lost his chance to compete after claiming that he had gotten caught in traffic from Keningau to Menggatal, where Inanam’s state headquarters holds his nominations.
“It is very disappointing, of course. We came from Keningau, we left at 5.30am but we got stuck in traffic and couldn’t find parking, ”Nazry said.
Nazry and his nominee, who is his wife, said they were aware of the traffic conditions in Keningau, where they live, and left early to be on time.
His wife is a native of Menggatal, hence the desire to compete in her hometown.
They arrived at the doors of the Menggatal community hall and were allowed in, but the Election Commission told them that nominations were closed.
“I guess we have to try again in the next election. We are targeting the general elections (GE15), ”he said.
MUPP is a little-known Sabah-based party that has participated in several elections, both state and general, in the past.
The party has about 20 candidates who hope to compete at the polls.
Nazry said he last ran for Sook’s state seat on GE13. – Malay Post
