PETALING JAYA: Meera Alyanna Mukhriz, daughter of Jerlun Mukhriz MP Mahathir and granddaughter of former Tun Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, has praised the police for their professionalism and said she was deeply ashamed of violating the recovery movement control order (MCO).

Alyanna, who was arrested along with her husband and others in a pub last week, said police officers had been courteous and fair to everyone who had been detained and eventually fined 1,000 RM on August 21.

“I have the utmost respect for his professionalism,” he posted on his Instagram account under the name ally.mukhriz.

“I thought it would be better if everyone knew about the incident from me,” he wrote.

Saying there was absolutely no excuse for her actions, she added: “I am also deeply ashamed of what my indiscretions have brought on my family, my friends and all of you.”

She added that she had gone to the Salute pub, in Taman Tun Dr Ismail in Kuala Lumpur, with her husband Ezran Daud Cheah and two other people to celebrate a friend’s birthday.

She said police detained 30 people, including herself, at 1.30am for breaking the recovery MCO. All were released at 5:30 a.m. the same day.

Alyanna and her husband paid the fine on August 25.

News first broke out earlier this week that the daughter of a VIP had been arrested for disobeying the MCO.

On Thursday (August 27), Mukhriz, who is also the president of the not yet registered Parti Pejuang Tanah Air, founded by Dr. Mahathir, admitted that they were his daughter and son-in-law.

Mukhriz said he was disappointed that it happened despite having advised his family to adhere to standard operating procedure (SOP) during the MCO’s recovery period.

“I am disappointed because it still happened. And since they were given advice, they deserve a fine, “he added.
