Muhyiddin will work from home

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will self-quarantine at home for 14 days after a cabinet minister tested positive for Covid-19.

However, the prime minister assured people that the situation will not disrupt the functioning of the government.

“I will continue to work from home and use video conferencing to attend important meetings that I must chair,” he said yesterday in a statement.

Muhyiddin had chaired a special cabinet meeting on Saturday which was also attended by the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) minister Datuk Seri, Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, who tested positive for Covid-19.

The minister confirmed it yesterday on his Facebook page.

This will be the second time the Prime Minister has undergone a self-quarantine, the first in May after an official present during a post-Cabinet meeting tested positive for the coronavirus.

Health Director General Tan Sri, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, confirmed that one of the attendees at the meeting held in the Prime Minister’s Department was infected.

The contacts during the meeting were issued with a Home Surveillance Order (HSO) for 14 days starting Saturday and will wear the surveillance armband.

“Meeting members who are not close contacts have been told to observe self-quarantine for a 14-day period from October 3-16 and conduct a personal health check at home for 14 days using the“ home assessment tool “in MySejahtera app,” he said.

The Prime Minister also noted that the Ministry of Health conducted tests for Covid-19 on all members of the secretariat of the meeting in question.

As a precautionary measure, Muhyiddin said that he had been taking the Covid-19 tests every fortnight since April and they were all negative.

“They also tested me for Covid-19 three times in the last three weeks, on September 22, 26 and 29, and all the results were negative,” he added.

Among those present at the meeting were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Minister of Works Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr. Adham Baba.
