KOTA KINABALU: Nine hours after Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim claimed that he has a large majority with which to form the next government, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin told a crowd during a ceramah in Sabah that he is still the prime minister.
“Some of you may still wonder if I am (still) the prime minister. I’m here tonight, I’m still the prime minister, ”he said, while campaigning for the candidates of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Gee Tien Siong (Luyang) and Dr. Chang Kee Ying (Likas) at a restaurant on Hilltop, Luyang. on Wednesday (September 23).
In his speech, Muhyiddin referred to an opposition leader who claimed to have the support of parliamentarians to form a new government, but did not mention anyone by name.
“I do not question your statement. But we must understand that this country practices a system of parliamentary democracy, ”he said.
Muhyiddin then added that in a country that practices parliamentary democracy, the Constitution remains the basis of government.
“The Malaysian Constitution is used as the basis for everything we want to implement,” he added.
Muhyiddin, who seemed indifferent to the latest developments, spoke about how he had to take responsibility as prime minister when he was sworn in by the King on March 1 to deal with the Covid-19 crisis, where Malaysia entered an unprecedented move . control order (MCO) on March 18 to address the pandemic.
“I was given the mandate and responsibility to lead the country as prime minister and that is a responsibility that I must assume, whether I can or not,” he added.
