Muhyiddin should resign due to emergency fiasco, says Umno leader

The King is aware that the proposal to ask for the state of emergency was a political maneuver, says Puad Zarkashi of Umno.

PETALING JAYA: Puad Zarkashi, a member of the Supreme Council of Umno, called for the resignation of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, following Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decision to reject the government’s proposal to declare a state of emergency due to the Covid-19 crisis .

In a Facebook post, Puad claimed that PPBM leaders had blamed Minister of Industry and International Trade, Mohamed Azmin Ali, and Minister of the Interior, Hamzah Zainudin, for the fiasco during an “emotional” meeting at the private residence of Muhyiddin in Bukit Damansara last night.

“Is it true that Muhyiddin had been advised against?” I ask.

More than 10 vehicles believed to be carrying cabinet members had been seen entering the compound of Muhyiddin’s home hours after a conference in Istana Negara between the king and other Malaysian rulers.

It was previously reported that a member of Muhyiddin’s PPBM party had said that the cabinet and PAS Chairman Abdul Hadi Awang wanted to discuss the results of the rulers’ meeting after the decision was announced.

The party’s insider had also dismissed rumors that the prime minister was considering resigning, saying it was part of “propaganda from stubborn politicians who wanted to get back into politics.”

Puad said the King’s rejection meant that he had realized that the emergency proposal was only a political maneuver and not a move to combat the pandemic.

“The third paragraph of the palace press release read ‘Sultan Abdullah believed that the government had contained the pandemic efficiently.’

“If the Agong is confident, why not the prime minister? Did the prime minister try to lie to the Agong? I ask.

Puad also said that legal experts had pointed out that the King should listen to the prime minister’s advice, as established in Article 40 of the Federal Constitution.

“But it seems his advice (from Muhyiddin) was not accepted. So where is your credibility as prime minister?

“Fortunately, the Agong was not influenced by political games that could drag the country lower. The well-being of the people is more important. Muhyiddin should just quit. “

Liew Chin Tong.

Meanwhile, DAP’s Liew Chin Tong has urged Muhyiddin to ask Senior Ministers Azmin and Hamzah to resign instead, as a way for the government to move forward.

“To foster goodwill for bipartisanship, Muhyiddin should ask Hamzah and Ali to step down in order to take responsibility for wrongly advising the king and also for creating the toxic political atmosphere that led to the cabinet’s decision to push for an emergency government. “Liew said in a statement.

Doing so, he said, would foster better cooperation between the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration and the opposition, for the good of the nation during this Covid-19 crisis.

“The government should not fear Parliament and the government should not treat the opposition as an enemy of the state.

“With equal treatment of opposition MPs, the Muhyiddin administration has the opportunity to turn the crisis into the new birth of Malaysian parliamentary democracy,” he said.
