KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin launched Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) manifesto here today.

He said the manifesto promises, based on the rights of Sabah, Shared Prosperity Vision and the unity of the Sabah people, would be fulfilled if the GRS comprising Perikatan Nasional (PN), Barisan Nasional (BN) and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) received the mandate of the people to form the new state government in the early elections of September 26.

Muhyiddin said promises must be kept to bring more development, progress and a better life for the people of Sabah.

“The reason I was given the copy of the document as prime minister is because some of the promises involve the federal government, while others involve the state government. It is much better than what Warisan offered to the people of Sabah.

“This is something we must do because most of the people of Sabah are still thirsty for progress and development. Like people in other states, the Sabahans also need attention and support from both the state and federal governments, ”said Muhyiddin, who is also president of the PN, at the launch of the GRS Commitments at a hotel here today.

Also present were BN Secretary General Annuar Musa, PBS Vice President Radin Maleh, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Yong Teck Lee, STAR President Jeffrey Kitingan, PAS Secretary General Takiyuddin Hassan, the president of Sabah BN, Bung Moktar Radin, and the president of Sabah PN, Hajiji Noor.

Muhyiddin said that the promises reflect the full commitment of the parties to GRS to provide a better life for people, especially when facing difficult situations caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said that Covid-19 had caused a huge negative impact on the world, and Sabah was not spared, and as a result, people in the state had become poor due to the slowdown in the economic sector.

“So it takes a lot of commitment to overcome the problem.

“And our commitment is not ordinary. We are making an extraordinary commitment to help people face this unprecedented situation, a difficult situation that people have never faced before.

“When all these parties support the same cause, (you can) trust us to form a new government of solidarity for the people of Sabah. We are not like the previous government that failed to fulfill its promise, the government led by my friend that did not deliver Covid-19 aid (for the people) until today, ”he said.

The first of the four pillars of the manifesto is the protection of Sabah’s rights. These are three key issues, namely, preserving and protecting the rights of Sabah on the basis of the Malaysia Agreement of 1963 (MA63); form a Committee on the Rights of Sabah of the special State Assembly; and form a Sabah Petroleum Council and PetroSabah Fund to protect the interests of future generations.

The second pillar is to have state leadership with high integrity that is clean, efficient and trustworthy and that puts people first while generating public confidence in the integrity of Sabah’s public officials.

The third says that the Shared Prosperity Vision (WKB) 2030 plan will be the foundation to ensure that Sabah receives equal attention in efforts to reduce the development gap between regions and generate a high-value economy.

The fourth pillar is in the Sabah village unit. This has three key aspects, namely, intensifying efforts to promote unity and social integration among people regardless of their religion, race and culture; ensure freedom of religion based on the Federal Constitution; and foster the spirit of national integration based on the principles of Rukun Negara.
