PETALING JAYA: Malaysia hopes to strengthen its partnership with the United States under the leadership of President-elect Joe Biden, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in a message of congratulations on Biden’s election victory
In a press release on Sunday (November 8), the prime minister said Malaysia looks forward to continuing and expanding its existing partnership with the US on various issues and global fronts, including fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I wish President-elect Joe Biden great success in his presidency, and I look forward to meeting him personally when an opportunity arises,” he added, saying that he extends his sincerest congratulations to the Democratic presidential candidate.
He said Malaysia has closely followed the electoral process in the United States well in advance.
“American voters have decided decisively to endorse Biden as the 46th president of the United States for his leadership and vision,” Muhyiddin said.
In a US presidential election watched closely by a global audience, the former vice president rose to defeat incumbent Republican Donald Trump on Saturday night (November 7) after a few days of scrupulous vote counting.
Muhyiddin added that, as a rapidly growing developing country, Malaysia attaches great importance to its relations with the United States.
He said the Comprehensive United States-Malaysia Partnership remains a comprehensive framework for proactive, multifaceted and mutually beneficial collaboration between the two countries.
