SINGAPORE: Singapore’s Ministry of Health confirmed that one of the five imported Covid-19 cases into the republic announced on Sunday is a 23-year-old Malaysian woman who delivered her Home Stay Notice (SHN) at a hotel here.
The Health Ministry said it was transferred to another dedicated facility on December 20 when the ministry began investigations of 13 previously reported cases that had served SHN at the same hotel between October 22 and November 11.
Labeled as case 58762, the work permit holder was swabbed on December 19 and 21 and her test results were negative for Covid-19 infection, the ministry said in its full data released last night.
“Her swab from December 24 to the end of SHN tested positive and she was taken to hospital the next day. A confirmatory test from the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) was also positive, ”he said.
However, the ministry said that a second sample taken by NPHL on December 26 came back negative, and his serological test result also came back negative.
The Ministry of Health indicated that investigations are being carried out to evaluate whether she, who is asymptomatic, could be related to the 13 cases.
On December 19, the ministry said that the 13 imported cases were observed to have high genetic similarity even though the cases had arrived from different countries, including Bahrain, Canada, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Netherlands, the Philippines, South Korea. , United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States. .
As of noon on Sunday, the republic reported a total of five new cases, none in the community or residing in dormitories, bringing the total infection here to 58,524.
