JOHOR BAHRU: Police Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) patrol cars across the country now have a new safety vest, ‘Reflective Level II Bulletproof Vest with Anti-Stab’ to avoid any threat and risk of injury while on duty.

The director of the Department of Crime Prevention and Community Security of Bukit Aman, Datuk Zainal Abidin Kasim, said that 800 units were distributed in the first phase giving priority to all contingents.

He said the distribution was also based on frequent criminal case risks and incidents that required MPV patrollers to wear safety vests.

According to him, the Level II bulletproof reflective vest with anti stabbing can last 10 years and provide ballistic protection against firing of nine millimeter (mm) caliber bullets.

“It also provides protection against stab wounds caused by sharp implements, such as knives and others, as well as being able to reflect light to protect members who are on duty at night or in dark conditions.

“We give to all of Malaysia based on priorities. Large contingents, as in Johor we give 100 units for the high risks they imply similar to those posed by Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Penang ”, he said.

He was speaking to reporters after the Level II Bulletproof Reflective Vest with Stab Resistant and 400 Shirts from the Women’s Safe Squad (Amanita) at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters, here today.

Previously, Zainal said that MPV members only received light reflective jackets that had no safety features and this new quality safety vest was seen as increasing members’ confidence while on duty.

He said there were 3,000 minivans nationwide and around 6,000 units of safety vests were needed, in which, for the first phase, the government delivered 800 units through the 2018 Budget after undergoing stress tests at the end of the year. past.

“If there are more, we also want the vests to be worn by staff from other departments while on duty,” he added. -Called
