MP SPEAKS | The time has come to adopt a “whole of government” and “whole of society” strategy and approach to the war against the Covid-19 pandemic.
This is because yesterday’s record of 2,335 new daily Covid-19 infections is proof that the current strategy has failed to stem the runaway rise in the third wave of the pandemic.
In fact, it shows that we are not too far behind the US Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) projections of 2,987 new daily cases on January 1, 2021 and 5,379 infections on March 21.
The purpose of a template is to serve as a warning of the worst to expect and the need for urgent corrective action. We shouldn’t be sitting targets.
The IHME model projected a continued increase in Covid-19 cases in Malaysia through mid-March, reaching more than 5,000 daily infections since February 25.
It predicted that the 2,987 new daily cases of Covid-19 on January 1 would rise to 4,176 on February 1 and 5,130 on March 1. The trend is forecast to increase through March 21 with 5,379 infections that day, then decline to 5,301 in April. 1.
