Bangi Ong MP Kian Ming says he believes the matter is in the public interest.

PETALING JAYA: Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming received a lawsuit notice from a senior executive at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology regarding an alleged defamatory post on Twitter on the university’s campus in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The notification was sent by lawyers for the university’s senior vice president, Gail Phung, demanding that Ong pay 50 million ringgit in compensation and damages.

In a statement today, Ong said he “did not agree or disagree” with a tweet he referenced in his Twitter post.

“I was referring to the tweet to contextualize the allegations raised so that the competent Malaysian authorities can learn about this case and carry out the necessary investigations,” he said.

He said he will not issue a public apology because he believes the matter is in the public interest and is in line with his role as a deputy.

“I have instructed my attorney, Syahredzan Johan, to respond to the notice issued by Gail Phung’s lawyers and state my position in the legal notice sent to me.”
