PUTRAJAYA: The conditional movement control order (MCO) should be implemented for all of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya because the cases are widespread in terms of location, says the Ministry of Health.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (Photo) said that although the cases were less than 100 in each district, the number of new infections was constantly increasing every day.

“The cases are scattered throughout the Klang Valley and the infection has spread to all districts except Sabak Bernam,” he said.

“We cannot wait for all zones to change from yellow to red and only then implement conditional OLS.

“If the cases had been concentrated in one district, a targeted enhanced MCO would be sufficient. But because it is spread out, it is difficult to brake.

“Controlling the district borders within Selangor and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur is not easy either.

“So the best measure to break the chain of infection is to implement a state-wide conditional OLS,” Dr. Noor Hisham said during a press conference broadcast live from his home.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had previously announced the conditional MCO to be implemented in Selangor,

Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya from 12:01 tomorrow until October 27.

Dr. Noor Hisham said that under the conditional MCO, businesses would still be able to operate, although the social, educational and sports sectors would stop during this period.

“It is a real challenge for the Ministry of Health and the government to achieve a balance between life and livelihood.

“So we mitigated the situation with the conditional MCO. We let the economic sector work but we restrict social, educational and sports movements.

“We hope this strikes the right balance. Hopefully our actions will pay off in two to three weeks and we will continue to closely monitor the situation, ”said Dr. Noor Hisham.

Previously, he said that the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic by the country’s leaders in Sabah was now at a critical moment.

Various strategies and approaches would be taken to break the Covid-19 chain in the state, he added.

“Our strategy is based on community surveillance, contact tracing to find, test, isolate and treat all infected people and further break the chain of infection by tightening state and district borders,” he said on Twitter.

Yesterday, Selangor registered 69 new cases of Covid-19, while Kuala Lumpur saw 27 new infections. Four of the country’s new clusters were found in state and federal territory.

In Putrajaya, there are two new cases of Covid-19, linked to the Selasih group and the new Bah Kasturi group.
