PETALING JAYA: A system has been put in place to enhance Malaysians’ digital skills and empower local businesses to go digital, said Malaysia’s Digital Economy Corporation (MDeC).

Its marketing director, Raymond Siva, said that the #SayaDigital initiative seeks to prepare various sectors to embrace the new normal and overcome the challenges it has created.

He said there are no requirements to join #SayaDigital, just the desire to learn more about digitization.

“Our capacity building measures are aimed at all Malaysians, whether they are small business owners or part of the workforce seeking to upgrade their skills, including young people just entering the workforce.

“For example, the SME Digital Summit, a one-of-a-kind event in Malaysia. Leveraging the experience of seasoned industry players such as Zetpy, Maxis, HEXA Food, SITEC and Zapptech, participants learned and engaged in the best ways to implement digital solutions that can help maintain or expand their business operations, “he told The Sun.

Siva said other programs under the umbrella of #SayaDigital include #YoungCreators, #MYDigitalWorkforce Week, and Gig and Freelance Expo (GFX).

He said these events, which operate in conjunction with partner events from their respective ecosystems, are solely focused on helping Malaysians learn new digital skills and, for companies, combine them with digital careers.

He said that #SayaDigital is a movement that aims to connect those looking for digital jobs and skills enhancement opportunities with partners offering it, including global tech giants like Tencent, Google and Amazon.

He said the other ecosystem partners such as Exabytes, Digi Telecommunications, commerce.asia, EasyParcel, Zetpy, and Maxis have also come together to bridge the digital divide as they search for the right digital talent to grow and work with.

“By leveraging their experience and presence in the movement, we can provide a platform for those seeking opportunities and those providing them.

“As such, it accelerates the digitization process for talent development and organizational operations and creates a holistic digital workforce.”

He said that with the move, along with linked efforts such as the recently introduced #MYDigitalWorkforce Jobs employment platform, the National Directory of Digital Skills Training, various workshops for SME digitization and digital content development training, the approach to drive the development of digital talent is well under way.

Siva said, for example, for the SME Digital Summit 2020, more than one million (cumulative) participants tuned in.

He said this led to an increase in the registration of digitization initiatives by SMEs.

He said that for the #YoungCreators Movement, as of September 8, there were over 5.1 million impressions for all streamed workshops and user content, with nearly 750,000 shares and saves on TikTok, Instagram Feed and Live, and YouTube. .

“During #MYDigitalWorkforce Week, there were more than eight million impressions of all content that was streamed over two weeks and close to 350,000 clicks or visits to the #MYDigitalWorkforce website.”

He said that during GFX, there were two days of great engagement with key influencers and opinion leaders on the topic of improvement and retraining and the latest trends about the freelance ecosystem.

He said this helped more than 100,000 participants better understand the Gig Economy.

He said that new users continue to sign up even after events like #MYDigitalWorkforce Jobs Platform and eRezeki.
