More than RM1bil spent on Covid-19 fight, says Ministry of Health

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has spent a total of RM1.17bil in its fight to curb the spread of Covid-19 as of October this year, Parliament heard.

“As of October 31, 2020, the Ministry of Health has spent a total of RM1.17 billion, including the existing allocation for the ministry, for devices, medical supplies, consumables, personal protective equipment (PPE), test kits and reagents, as well as other services in our efforts to control the spread of Covid-19, “he said during question time on Thursday (December 3).

I was responding to a question from Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli (PAS-Dungun), who asked the total expenditure of the Ministry of Health to address Covid-19.

Aaron said that a large portion of the spending was distributed to pay for the special Covid-19 allocation to ministry leaders, which is worth a total of RM275k and a total of RM262k to buy PPE, as well as reagents and test kits.

It revealed that a total of RM210 thousand has been spent on outsourcing private laboratory tests for the detection of Covid-19.

“The total amount does not include the payment of emoluments for medical services personnel involved in the control of the treatment and outbreak of Covid-19, which has already been allocated under the existing fund for the Ministry of Health,” he added.
