KUALA LUMPUR (THE STAR / ASIAN NEWS NETWORK) – A total of 51 patrons at a karaoke center in Kuala Lumpur were caught for violating Malaysia’s conditional motion control order (MCO).

Customers were partying in more than 15 rooms downtown when police raided the Jalan Ipoh facility around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday (December 24).

Kuala Lumpur CID Director Senior Asst Comm Saiful Annuar Yusoff said customers used the back entrance rather than the front to make it appear that the facility was not operational.

“We raided the karaoke center based on information provided by the public, who were suspicious of many vehicles using the back alley late at night.

“We investigated and it is true that the center was operational, but it allowed customers to use only the rear entrance,” he said after leading the police operation on Thursday.

Saiful Annuar said the clients, ages 29 to 53, were busy singing and partying, not following conditional MCO standard operating procedures when the raid took place.

“Clients received compounds,” he said. “We also arrested two Indonesian women, aged 29 and 39, as well as a local, who was the manager of the premises.”

The center will also be monitored to ensure it does not start operating again, Saiful Annuar said.

“The center operated without a license, but we do not rule out the possibility that it used a business license for restaurant and bistro.

“We also seized several items, including business receipts, an amplifier and a microphone,” he said, adding that two men and three women were also arrested for testing positive for drugs.
