KUALA LUMPUR: More than 322,000 employers and 2.6 thousand workers will benefit from the Salary Subsidy Program (PSU) and PSU 2.0 after the government approved a total of RM11.9bil in schemes on October 23 this year, the Dewan Rakyat was saying.

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the scheme was introduced to help employers affected by Covid-19 so companies can continue to operate and avoid downsizing workers and workers struggling to find a new source. from income.

“As of October 23, a total wage subsidies of RM11.9 billion had been approved that will benefit more than 322,000 employers and 2.6,000 workers.

“In total, nearly RM18 billion was allocated for PSU and PSU 2.0 programs,” Nazlan Idris (BN-Jerantut) told Datuk Ahmad during question time.

Ahmad Nazlan had asked the Finance Ministry to declare its plans after the recovery motion control order (MCO) due to Covid-19 to help workers who have lost their source of income during this period.

Tengku Zafrul also noted that since March, the government had implemented four economic stimulus and economic recovery packages.

“The total value of the economic stimulus packages is RM305bil.

“Last Friday (November 6), I also presented the 2021 Budget with an expenditure of RM322.5bil, which is the largest in the history of the country,” he said.

Tengku Zafrul also noted that the government had channeled a total of RM11.9 billion in the form of one-time assistance that will benefit more than 16.3 million beneficiaries.

“Under the stimulus packages, initiatives that had been put in place to provide temporary relief from their daily burden included a one-time cash assistance under Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) and an additional one-time payment of RM100. under Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH)), “he said.

He noted that the government had also provided unique assistance to vulnerable groups such as disabled communities, single mothers and volunteers.

“One-time assistance was also distributed to taxi drivers, tour operators, tour bus drivers and e-call drivers, as well as special assistance to students enrolled in higher education institutions.

“All of this assistance is unique in nature and is aimed at providing short-term relief,” said Tengku Zafrul.

The government, he added, had also eased the burden on households by providing assistance in other ways, such as granting discounts on electricity bills and exempting the rental of PPR houses and transit houses under the Ministry of Housing and Government. Local and Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL).

The finance minister said the government remains committed to helping people, businesses, and the economy tackle the upcoming post-Covid-19 challenges.
