More than 100 arrested in pubs and nightclubs for violating MCO

PUTRAJAYA: More than 100 people were captured in pubs and nightclubs in a one-day raid, as part of police operations on violations of the recovery movement control order (MCO), says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Chief Minister (Security) said that the 109 people who were arrested for “activities in pubs or nightclubs” were among the 198 people captured on Wednesday (September 2).

“On September 2, the police arrested 198 people for violating the MCO. Of that total, 184 people were issued complexes, while another nine are in preventive detention. Five others have been released on bail.

“Among the OLS recovery crimes that were discovered during the controls by the authorities were activities in pubs or discos (109 people), activities with large crowds and lack of physical distance (41), lack of check-in facilities. in for clients (25), not wearing masks (17), prostitution activities (two) and not complying with quarantine orders (one), ”he said in a statement on Thursday (September 3).

The arrests were made during checks by the police, which leads the government’s task force on compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

A total of 51,809 checks were carried out Wednesday night by 12,567 officers from the task force, according to Ismail.

The locations that were monitored included supermarkets, restaurants, street stalls, factories, banks, government offices, as well as air, land and water terminals.

Ismail also said police had erected 63 barricades across the country on Wednesday under “Ops Benteng,” which were aimed at preventing immigrants from entering the country illegally and preventing cross-border crime as well as the spread of Covid-19.

He said that a foreigner was arrested by the police for an immigration-related crime.

On mandatory quarantine orders, Ismail said that between July 24 and September 2, a total of 22,057 people entered the country through international points of entry.

All were placed in 71 hotels and four public training institutions nationwide to undergo their mandatory quarantine.

So far, 9,481 people are being quarantined while another 12,510 have been discharged.

Another 66 people have been sent to hospitals for treatment.

Ismail also said that the Ministry of Housing and Local Government had conducted eight Covid-19 sanitation exercises in various states: Sarawak (three operations), Sabah (two), and one in Melaka, Pahang and Perak.

He said that since March 30, the ministry had carried out 9,815 sanitation operations in 134 areas.
