Franco Morbidelli is aiming for a third MotoGP World Championship victory of the 2020 season after taking another pole position in Valencia, the ninth for a Yamaha rider this season.

In an upside-down session interspersed with rain during the early stages, Morbidelli’s time trial in the final stages saw him catapult to the top of the timesheets almost half a second clear of second-place Jack Miller.

Coming into the race with a slim chance of winning the 2020 MotoGP title, 45 points behind Joan Mir in front, while Morbidelli is not targeting the title specifically, he says he will continue to push for the maximum available.

“Today’s qualifying was a bit strange because the conditions were varied and not easy. You had to take the right risk to get a good lap time, without making any mistakes, and I did.

“I felt very good on the bike, so I was able to take the necessary risks and I am very happy. It has been a great weekend so far and we have improved the pace, compared to last weekend’s race.

“We have analyzed what happened last time and we have been able to improve. It will be important to start well tomorrow, give everything and score as many points as we can.

“Winning is nice and, of course, I want to win, but we have to see what the conditions are and what happens tomorrow.

“I always aim for the maximum because I’m doing a moment where I’m in good shape to be able to aim for the maximum, but then getting it is a different story. Let’s see how good we can be tomorrow and Portimao ”.
