KUALA LUMPUR: The value of the moratorium on loan repayments by financial institutions was RM78.14bil as of August 21, 2020, Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz said on Wednesday.
Of this figure, the business sector used a total of RM27.35bil, while the rakyat used RM50.79bil.
This moratorium came into effect on April 1, 2020 and will end on September 30, 2020.
“For those who still need an extension of the moratorium and specific banking assistance after September 30, banking institutions are ready to help borrowers.
“Those who are still affected can start contacting the respective banks to discuss and request payment flexibility,” LAKSANA said in the 19th report on the implementation of the Prihatin Rakyat Economic Stimulus Package (PRIHATIN) and the National Economic Recovery Plan ( PENJANA).
As of August 21, 2020, the number of applications that had been approved by local banks and accepted by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for SME soft loan funds was RM10.2 billion that will benefit 22 322 SMEs.
Tengku Zafrul said the amount was a RM10.1bil increase last week that benefited 22,143 SMEs.
He said that the amount included the Special Aid Facility, the Automation and Digitization Facility, the Facility for the Entire Economic Sector and the Agri-Food Facility.
“Alhamdulillah (Praise God), the Special Help Facility has been fully utilized and more than 21,000 SMEs have used this facility which has helped save more than 400,000 jobs.
“SMEs can still apply for other types of financing, such as funds from financial institutions and the BNM Fund, such as the Automation and Digitization Fund, the Fund for the entire economic sector and the Agri-food Fund,” he added.
Tengku Zafrul also said that 4.18 million recipients had payments credited to their bank accounts for the Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) under PRIHATIN for a total of RM2.7bil.
BSH recipients who qualified but whose payments could not be credited to their bank accounts can claim the assistance at any Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) branch until December 31, 2020.
“I would like to remind the public that the BSH 2020 Appeal Request is open until September 6, 2020,” said Tengku Zafrul.
For the i-Lestari withdrawal scheme under the Employee Provident Fund (EPF), the total accumulated withdrawal between April and August 2020 was RM7.48bil with 4.57 million recipients compared to RM7.4bil with 4.55 million recipients last week.
As of August 21, 2020, a total of RM 10.3 billion in salary subsidies had been approved under the Salary Subsidy Program, benefiting more than 2.61 million employees.
“Of this amount, a total of RM8.9bil has been successfully disbursed,” he added. – Bernama
