DETROIT, USA (ANN): A 33-year-old mother succumbed to Covid-19 just 18 days after giving birth to a healthy baby in Detroit, USA.
Erika Becerra contracted the coronavirus last month, according to CBS affiliate KCBS, on Dec. 4. She had no underlying conditions and was already eight months pregnant at the time.
As her condition worsened, doctors decided to induce labor on November 15. Then she welcomed her second child, a son named Diego. However, the disease persisted and his health continued to deteriorate.
“She had a normal labor,” her brother Michael Avilez told the media, “she gave birth to her son but was unable to hug him because right after giving birth, that’s when they put the tube and then from there. she just started to decline. “
After realizing she was not recovering, Avilez and her family rushed to Detroit from Los Angeles to be with Becerra. She remembered that she cried as they prayed for her during her last moments.
“Everything my sister wanted was the best for everyone and she cared about life,” Avilez said while holding back tears. “She didn’t deserve to go through what happened.”
Despite the tragic loss of her family, Avilez and more of Becerra’s loved ones hope her death will remind others that the pandemic remains a serious problem.
“It is something real. I don’t know why people don’t understand that, ”Avilez said in the report.
Becerra is survived by her husband, 1-year-old daughter, and newborn son. Following her untimely death, her loved ones have created a crowdfunding page to help her family cover funeral expenses.
The crowdfunding effort has received more than $ 95,000 from more than 2,500 donors as of this writing. Additional donations will be used to meet the needs of your children. – Philippine Daily Inquirer / Asia News Network
