Mokhzani takes over as Chairman of Maxis

KUALA LUMPUR: Maxis Bhd has appointed Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, Senior Independent Director, to take over as Chairman following the resignation of Raja Tan Sri Arshad Tun Uda.

Mokhzani will take up his new role on April 22.

Raja Arshad will continue to serve the company as an independent director, the telecommunications company said in a statement today.

“I think it is time for the chairmanship to be handed over to a younger member of the Board, and I congratulate Mokhzani on his appointment,” said Raja Arshad.

“He is a highly experienced corporate and entrepreneurial leader who is well versed in the telecommunications industry, having served on the board for a number of years and on various board committees,” he added.

Maxis said that Raja Arshad decided to resign after the conclusion of the company’s annual general meeting (AGM) on April 22.

He has served as Chairman of Maxis since its listing in Bursa Malaysia in 2009.

62% of the stake in Maxis Bhd is indirectly held by Binariang GSM Sdn Bhd, in which Saudi Telecom Company has a 25% stake, and the remaining 75% is owned by Harapan Nusantara Sdn Bhd, Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd and affiliates .
