PETALING JAYA: Ahead of next week’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam an updated and improved compilation of guidelines was released on how to manage student movements in schools, deal with Covid-19 cases, their close contacts and detect the symptoms.

Chief Education Officer Datuk Dr. Habibah Abdul Rahim said that the safety of students, teachers and staff was his top priority when the School Operations and Management guideline under the new 2.0 standard was published on February 9.

It contained improvements from previous versions, it said yesterday.

“The first guideline was published on June 4 of last year, just before we reopened the schools, but once the schools started, there were new issues to consider and we updated them accordingly.

“The latest version is based on the current situation of Covid-19 in the country,” he added.

The new additions were the movements of the students when they were in school until dismissal, and how to handle those with Covid-19, the close contacts and the symptoms displayed, he said.

The guide also stressed the need to maintain the confidentiality of students, teachers and staff infected with the virus, Habibah said.

“The guideline has gone through several levels of discussion and has been thoroughly examined. The challenge with the ministry now is that the students comply with the guidelines, especially among the youngest (in elementary schools), ”he said.

Emphasizing the safety of students and teachers, teachers 50 and older who don’t feel comfortable serving as test proctors will not be forced to take on the role, he said.

On Monday, Examinations Syndicate director Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali said that to ensure that exams run smoothly and students are in a safe environment, exam rooms will be disinfected every night.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure that the exam runs smoothly in a safe environment. And we are also allowing students to eat in the test halls with food delivered, ”he said.

The most recent guidelines can be found at moe.gov.my/muat-turun/pekeliling-dan-garis-panduan/4109-garis-panduan-pengurusan-dan-pengoperasian-sekolah-dalam-norma-baharu-2-0/ file.

The SPM exam begins February 22 through March 25 and involves 401,105 students.

Furthermore, Habibah said that the “Teaching and Learning at Home Manual Version 2” (PdPR 2.0) was published to provide guidance to teachers when conducting Teaching and Learning at Home (PdPR) sessions.

The manual was intended to ensure that the online and offline teaching approach reached students, he said.

“We don’t want students to be left behind. From the survey we conducted, we noticed that there are different times and hours used to teach students.

“The differences have caused several problems, such as concerns about whether the core content of the curriculum would be delivered within the academic year,” he said.

Publishing this manual as a guide for teachers on how to organize their schedule and perform the PdPR is also helpful for students.
