KUALA LUMPUR: A 23-year-old model died on the operating table after allegedly undergoing liposuction at a beauty salon here that was reportedly not properly licensed to perform medical procedures.
Sin Chew Daily quoted the victim’s brother as saying that his sister, who was identified as Coco Siew, paid 2,500 ringgit to undergo the procedure on Saturday in preparation for their upcoming wedding.
She arrived at the beauty salon in Cheras around 2.30 pm accompanied by friends and they injected her arms with anesthesia.
However, he felt his heart slow down and he experienced seizures only 30 minutes later.
She was rushed to the hospital, but she died around 5 p.m., the newspaper said.
The brother said the salon owners allegedly admitted that they only had a salon permit.
The brother added that the family filed a police report on the incident.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Comm Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said the owners of the beauty salon, a woman and her daughter, were detained to assist in the investigation.
