Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said input will be obtained from the health ministry and other ministries before any EMCO is imposed in Selangor.

PETALING JAYA: Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the National Security Council (MKN) is reviewing a proposal to put Selangor under a total blockade or an enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

This follows the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in recent times.

During a press conference today, Ismail said that the conditional movement control order (CMCO) affecting Selangor will stand until the government conducts a further assessment.

The current CMCO, which affects Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya, will end on October 27.

Ismail said they first needed to get different perspectives from the health ministry and other relevant ministries on how an EMCO will affect different economic sectors.

“It is true that I have received many opinions that Selangor has too many cases. We are still evaluating the suggestion to switch from CMCO to EMCO in detail.

“Under EMCO, people cannot leave their homes and food must be sent to every home.

Second, the economy will shut down. Stores cannot be open to the public.

“There are also those who will be left without income if they cannot operate their business.”

Therefore, Ismail said that there must be a balance between controlling the spread of the virus and people’s livelihoods, although an EMCO would make it easier to control public movement.
