MELAKA: The Ministry of National Commerce and Consumer Affairs seriously considers the misuse of the terms “franchise” and “direct sales” as an easy way to grow businesses.

His deputy minister, Rosol Wahid, said that although not many complaints had been received, some had been sanctioned for the crime under the Franchise Law of 1998 and the Anti-Pyramid Schemes and Direct Sales Law of 1993.

“This includes franchisors who put pressure on their franchisees. So if any issues arise, including the broken agreement, report them quickly, ”he said.

He told reporters this after launching the Statewide Direct Selling and Franchise Industry Program, the Buy Products from Malaysia (KBBM) campaign and the Malaysia Mega Sales Program (PJM) here today.

He said this was because some parties did not have franchise registration and direct selling licenses, but misused the terms “franchise” and “direct sales” to grow their businesses.

Commenting on the high cost of venturing into the franchise field, he said that the implementation of the macro franchise development program would be the best platform for the B40 and M40 groups to venture.

“We have spoken with potential industry players to offer affordable franchise packages worth less than RM 100,000 and micro franchise packages worth less than RM 50,000.

“This initiative will generate job opportunities for the B40 and M40 groups, in addition to generating profitable returns for franchisors,” he said.

He urged those interested to seize the opportunity as there are 11 brands offering micro and affordable packages to date, including Arjuna Village, Ani Sup Utara, Taska Bonda Mama, KopieSatu, MD Putu Bambu World and Ayam D ‘ Penyet.

Meanwhile, Rosol explained that the small-scale franchise road tour program (Franchise Bay), which launched today, aims to publicize the franchise business systems in the country.

“To date, there are 1,091 registered franchise brands, of which 700 are local brands.

“As such, the ministry is targeting at least 30 potential new franchisees with a potential investment worth RM7.5 million during the one-year Franchise Bay exhibition, which will also be held in Terengganu, Johor, Pahang, Selangor. , Kedah and Sarawak, “he said.
