PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Health has found 21 food products involving 16 brands that contain controlled poisons such as sildenafil and tadalafil, and has warned sellers not to sell them.
Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said legal action has been taken against the producers and distributors of four brands, while the other 12 were found to have false or incomplete company names and addresses.
Under Section 13 of the Food Act of 1983, he said, anyone who prepares or sells any food that contains any substance that is poisonous, harmful or injurious to health, can be fined up to RM100,000 or face a maximum of jail sentence of 10 years or both.
“All merchants, including online merchants, who still have stocks of the products, should immediately stop selling them and contact the nearest district health office to have them seized.
“Members of the public who consume these products are encouraged to immediately seek the advice and treatment of healthcare professionals,” Noor Hisham said in a statement today.
The ministry’s food safety and quality division had surveyed 849 products from 2019 to August this year.
The 21 products that contain controlled poisons include health drinks, candy, and premixed coffee.
