PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumption has received complaints about merchants and restaurant owners that serve drinks of different brands and qualities to those advertised in the menu.

The director of the Ministry’s Enforcement Division, Datuk Iskandar Halim Sulaiman (pix), in a statement today, said that the menu indicated drinks such as ‘Milo’ or ‘Nescafé’, but customers were not served the drinks they had ordered and, as such, merchants or restaurant operators had violated the Business Descriptions Act of 2011.

The use of false trade descriptions on products or food offered by merchants or restaurants is an offense under section 5 (1) (b) of the Trade Descriptions Act of 2011, which carries a fine not to exceed RM250,000, in conviction case, he added.

He said the ministry had carried out checks on 881 restaurants and restaurants across the country from October 7 to October 27, where two cases were filed for using false business descriptions.

The public can channel information to the ministry by submitting relevant complaints through its portal at eaduan.kpdnhep.gov.my or at 1-800-886-800 or by WhatsApp at 019-2794317.

Complaints can also be submitted to the Enforcement Command Center (ECC) at 03-88826088 or in person at any nearby ministerial office. – Called
