Ministry of Public Works to work with various sectors to produce more technical professionals

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Works intends to work with more sectors, including ministries, agencies and universities, to produce more technical professionals in various sectors for the international market.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also Minister of Public Works, said that the technical profession not only focuses on construction and engineering, but also on many other fields that are important for the economic development of the country.

“People often don’t understand, when it comes to technique, they not only focus on the Department of Public Works, architects and engineers, but also the medical and bioengineering sector and many more.

“That is why we are working with other ministries, such as the Ministry of Environment and Water, for example, because they are technicians who specialize in water,” he said when appearing as a guest on RTM’s TV1 program “Selamat Pagi Malaysia”. along with National Technical Profession Day (HPTN) 2020 today.

Fadillah said that in conjunction with HPTN Day, which runs until December 30, the Ministry of Works will also organize programs for students in schools to expose them to the various technical professions.

“At the university level, we have UiTM (Universiti Teknologi Mara) and UniKL (Universiti Kuala Lumpur), and also others, where more than 20 webinars will be held to discuss various interesting topics by experts and industry actors,” he said. .

Fadillah said the government also intends to produce more professionals in various technical fields, focusing on the development of Vocational Technical Education and Training (TVET), including the Malaysian Construction Academy, which has produced more than 200,000 graduates.

The government, he said, also aims to produce technical professionals who not only have technical skills, but are also capable of further research and development (R&D).

He also hoped that the program would raise awareness in the community about the importance of having more technical professionals in the country and getting more people to venture into technical fields.

HPTN is held on the first Saturday of December in gratitude to the services of technical professionals for their contribution to the development of infrastructure and the development and modernization of the country.
