PETALING JAYA: Another high of 5,728 Covid-19 cases have been recorded, bringing the total number of infections across the country to 209,661.

The Health Ministry also said that Selangor had the most new cases, with 3,285 registered.

Of the new cases, five were imported infections involving two Malaysians and three foreigners.

Tan Sri Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said on Saturday (January 30) that there were another 13 deaths, bringing the death toll to 746.

There were also 3,805 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 161,527.

Of the 13 deaths, four were recorded in Selangor involving three men aged 53 to 78 and a woman aged 62.

The men had a history of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, while the women also had breast cancer.

“There were two Covid-19 deaths each in Sabah, Labuan and Perak and one in Johor, Sarawak and Melaka,” he said, adding that only one death was of a non-citizen.

Dr. Noor Hisham also announced the end of four groups and the emergence of 16 others, 13 of which are linked to workplaces and three community groups.

There are currently 387 active groups throughout the country.

Earlier on Saturday, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the sharp increase in the state’s cases was due to a backlog of cases over the past 10 days.

He said the state would take steps to better manage the pandemic, including imposing compounds on private clinics or hospitals that do not report positive cases directly on the same day through the Public Health Laboratory Information System (Simka).

The state will also implement the “Prevention of Outbreaks at the Site of Ignition (POIS)” program in factories throughout the state as they have been identified as the cause of the widespread transmission of Covid-19.

In a statement, Amiruddin said that the state government also planned to increase the number of Covid-19 Assessment Centers (CACs), especially in the Petaling, Hulu Langat and Gombak districts.

These centers will screen Covid-19 patients and classify them according to certain categories before they are taken to quarantine centers or hospitals for further treatment.

In addition, Amirudin said that the Low Risk Treatment and Quarantine Center (PKRC) at the Malaysia Agricultural Exhibition Park (MAEPS) could house an additional 6,000 patients with the provision of more facilities, including care unit tents. intensive care (ICU) and medical services. equipment.
