PUTRAJAYA: A total of 119 out of the cumulative number of 334 Covid-19 clusters detected in Malaysia to date are related to workplace infections, says the Ministry of Health.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that of the 119 groups linked to workplaces, 83 are still active while 36 have ended.

“A total of 77,201 people have been tested, of which 12,079 tested positive for Covid-19.

“This figure involves 4,398 Malaysians and 7,681 foreigners,” Dr. Noor Hisham said in a statement on Tuesday (November 24).

He said the five workplace-related groups with the highest number of cases are the Teratai group (4,036 cases), the Damanlela Construction Site group (1,539), the Cergas group (1,337), the Hentian group (1,101) and the Kaya group (900).

“The sudden increase in cases in the Klang Valley and Selangor is generally due to clusters of infections in the workplace,” he said.

As of November 24, there are 167 overall active conglomerates in the country, with no new conglomerates being detected.

Dr Noor Hisham said that for industries that employ many foreign workers, employers have a responsibility to provide conducive accommodation and ensure that Covid-19 prevention measures are enforced.

“The ministry urges employers to play a bigger role in fighting the transmission of Covid-19 in Malaysia,” he said.
