KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Ministry of Health (MINSA) hopes that the community will continue to play a role in protecting the vulnerable in the fight against Covid-19 in 2021.

Tan Sri Health Director General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said they included people with disabilities (PwD), the elderly, Orang Asli, dialysis and cancer patients, and people with low immunity and chronic diseases.

“The Ministry of Health will empower the community and protect green areas, in addition to improving the control of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension through the Peka B40 program.

“The Ministry of Health will also improve the integration of services to people through cooperation between public and private services,” he said in a video uploaded to its official website.

The 14 minute and 50 second video, among others, presents the highlights of Covid-19 throughout 2020, covering the number of cases, number of ventilators, number of beds and pre-surgical tests that have been performed through December.

Highlights also include the cooperation between the Ministry of Health and other government agencies such as the Royal Malaysian Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, and the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).

Dr. Noor Hisham also said that the MySejahtera app developed to monitor Covid-19 transmissions has 25.95 million registered users as of December 23.

“A total of 1.38 million companies have also been registered, while as of December 28 a total of 2.46 billion registrations were registered,” he said.

Dr. Noor Hisham also reminded people to always practice personal hygiene, wash their hands regularly, wear face masks, practice physical distancing, and adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“We have not won the Covid-19 war and in fact it has become more intense. Let’s get together and adhere to all SOPs to avoid getting infected.

“Happy New Year 2021. We take care of each other, our families, our community and our country,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.

As of December 31, Malaysia recorded a total of 113,010 Covid-19 cases, with 88,941 recoveries and 471 deaths. – Bernama
