Ministry of Health announces 54 new cases, one death

PETALIZING JAYA: The Ministry of Health announced today that as of 12 p.m., 54 new cases of Covid-19 were reported, with a total number of 6,589.

One more death was reported today, bringing the total number of deaths to 108.

“The total number of active cases is 1,552, with 18 positive cases in the intensive care unit (ICU). Of the 18, six need ventilation assistance, “Director General of Health Datuk, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, said in a press release.

He also said that 65 more cases were recovered and were discharged from the hospital, which makes the total number of recoveries 4,929 cases.

Death 108 is from a 74-year-old Malaysian woman with a medical history of autoimmune disease, high blood pressure, and thyroid problems.

He had close contact with case 1276, which is related to the meeting at the Seri Petaling mosque. She was first treated at Melaka Hospital on March 29 and was pronounced dead on May 8 at 11:23 p.m.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham also gave more updates on the cluster at a factory in Pedas, Negri Sembilan, in which 88 cases were found positive starting at 12 p.m. from today.

“The positive cases involved seven Malaysians and 81 non-Malaysians, comprising 33 from Nepal, 26 from Bangladesh, 11 from Indonesia and 11 from Myanmar. The investigation into the source of the infection is still ongoing, “he said.

He added that a new group exists at a construction site in Setia Alam, Selangor.

The group was detected on May 6 by a private hospital that notified the Ministry of Health after conducting Covid-19 screening tests on foreign workers.

“Three out of five workers were found positive. The three positive cases are from Bangladesh who shared the same accommodation with 18 others, “he said.

After that, an investigation and selection of the trio’s close contacts was carried out.

“From 12 p.m. Today, up to 28 people were screened for Covid-19. Of this number, 12 were positive and are from Bangladesh. Nine others were found negative, while seven cases are still pending results, “he said.

He added that the investigation into the source of the infection is still ongoing.
