PETALING JAYA: The Minister of Finance has clarified that the allocation for the Ministry of Health under the 2021 Budget is RM31.9bil, higher than RM30.6bil allocated in 2020.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the allocation for medical supplies and consumables in the amount of RM4.29bil had been allocated and classified under code 080000 (Specific programs).

“These include the government supply of public medical facilities of RM2.89 billion and medical and laboratory supplies of RM1.4 billion.

“This is why the total allocation under code 020000 (Medical) shows a ‘reduction’ from RM14.2bil (2020) to RM11.3bil (2021).

“These details contain provisions for various areas of health care, including nephrology and pharmacy. FACT: NO area of ​​health care has had its allocation reduced,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday (November 7) by the night.

This came after claims by industry groups that there had been significant cuts across the board that cut funding for public health workers and medical supplies for lifestyle diseases.

The government, Tengku Zafrul added, had also allocated RM24mil to address mental health issues through the improvement of the Mental Health, Prevention of Physical Abuse and Substance Abuse Program, as well as RM420mil to improve its Complementary Meals Plan for students. low-income families to obtain a daily supply of milk for each school day.

He said that the government had also reserved an additional RM475mil for the supply of reagents and consumables needed in relation to Covid-19 and RM318mil for the supply of personal protective equipment and hand sanitizers for the country’s frontline personnel.

Other allocations are RM150 thousand for the National Disaster Management Agency to coordinate efforts to combat the pandemic, RM 50 thousand for the acquisition of equipment, laboratory test supplies and medicines in teaching university hospitals, as well as additional equipment for the operation of facilities. dental services, virtual clinic services, health exams, zone facilities and thermometers in health facilities to comply with the SOPs of the new standard.

He said that the additional provision in item 6 was not included in the operational expense allocation contained in Buku Anggaran Hasil & Perbelanjaan Persekutuan 2021 (Projected Federal Income and Expenditures), as it was separated separately in the Covid-19 Fund.
