KOTA KINABALU: Senior Deputy Minister Bung Moktar Radin told DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng to stay out of Sabah politics after the latter suggested that all parties allow Warisan a walk in the by-elections of the state of Bugaya.

The head of Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) said that the decision to challenge Bugaya’s by-elections, following the death of its Warisan incumbent, Manis Muka Mohd Darah, rested with the respective parties in the state.

“You can tell Lim Guan Eng to let Sabah decide its own political direction,” he said when contacted.

“Whether there is a contest or not, the important thing is that in Sabah we know better how to assess political development on our own and how we can move it.”

Bung, who is an assemblyman from Lamag, said the Election Commission had 60 days to determine the date of the by-elections.

“In those 60 days anything can happen… we don’t have to comment so much on Lim’s statement. He just has to take care of Penang. “

Sabah BN, Perikatan Nasional (PN) and PBS are part of the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah coalition that won 38 of the 73 seats contested in the Sabah elections on September 26. The Warisan Plus coalition won 32 seats.

Lim had issued a statement today calling on Chief Minister Hajiji Noor to respect the mandate of Bugaya voters in previous state elections, in addition to considering the factor of public health and safety.

He said that Hajiji, who was previously infected with Covid-19, would know the dangers posed by the virus after the Sabah elections.

“Putting the rakyat first on politics will be a good start for the new prime minister, who has just recovered from Covid-19.

“Allowing Warisan to win Bugaya unopposed would show people that Hajiji is committed to fighting and overcoming the virus threat together with all parties,” said the Bagan deputy.

Manis Muka, 65, died yesterday after being admitted to the ICU of a private hospital here. It is understood that he suffered from kidney problems.

In the Sabah elections on September 26, Manis Muka defended his seat in Bugaya, winning with a majority of 6,005 votes against the closest contender Mohd Daud Tampokong of PN in a seven-way fight.
