MIKEL ARTETA has insisted that Arsenal have performed better than their opponents “every week”, despite their disastrous results.
The Gunners were defeated by EIEGTH once this season in just 14 games after losing 2-1 at Everton.
But Arteta is convinced that his team is not getting the touch of the green while playing better than his form shows.
He told talkSPORT: “The first thing we have to do is the things that we can control to improve them.
“There are things that we have not done lately when we play with ten men with situations that we generate that we do not mark.
“Normally when a team is in this position they get hit every week and this is not the case.
“We have been better than the opponent every week, but we are not winning football games, so we have to realize that.
“I don’t want to feel sorry for ourselves. It is what it is. It is the fight we have to face and the challenge.
“It is not about so many things that have happened, since that is not going to improve us.
“The group is really disappointed in the way we lost the game because they have the real belief that we could come here and turn things around tonight and the effort, passion and commitment went without a doubt.”
Rob Holding’s own goal and Yerry Mina’s header came between a Nicolas Pepe penalty at Goodison Park.
Arsenal had entered the game after a 1-1 draw at home against Southampton in the middle of the week.
And Arteta has been left scratching his head over why he managed just one point from his last two games.
He said: “We create more than Everton, sure.
“We scored an own goal and we conceded from a set piece. We work on that, but obviously they do it well.
“When we generated the chances, a lot of situations in the end ended at times.
“In the end, it’s the last pass, the last dribble, the last shot and what we need is a little luck. We hit the crossbar.
“Last week, we lost to Burnley without conceding a single shot on goal from the opponent.
“In recent weeks we have lost games in which we were better than the rivals, but this is football and it is happening too often.”
