KUALA LUMPUR (October 19): Microsoft Malaysia is collaborating with Malaysia Digital Economy Corp (MDEC) and the Malaysia Global Creativity and Innovation Center (MaGIC) to launch the “Highway to a 100 Unicorns” initiative.
In a joint statement today, they said the initiative is part of an effort to strengthen the nation’s startup ecosystem and empower local startups with mentorship, technology and access to business clients.
Eligible startups will gain access to business and technology focused workshops as well as monthly webinars to share knowledge with the global startup community.
Additionally, Malaysia’s top startups will benefit from an intensive one-year mentoring program, access to enterprise clients, and engagement opportunities with Microsoft experts and industry leaders.
Microsoft Malaysia Managing Director K Raman said that local startups can potentially become the unicorns of tomorrow, helping to shape economic recovery and resilience, and build a stronger long-term future in Malaysia.
MDEC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Surina Shukri said Kuala Lumpur had been recognized as the 11th emerging ecosystem of startups in the world by Startup Genome, increasing confidence that Malaysia is poised to be the preferred base for “land and expansion” for the best. innovators and new technology companies at the regional level.

Registration for Highway to a 100 Unicorns is now open until October 31, 2020.
To be considered, startups will first need to submit an application for the Emerge X competition.
All Emerge X startups will receive free GitHub and Azure credits and focused business and technology workshops, as well as technology and business focused workshops.
Top Malaysian finalists will be announced in November, joining other shortlisted innovators and entrepreneurs from 16 other Asia-Pacific countries, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand. , The Philippines, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
