In addition to the X247 Mercedes-Benz GLB 200 and 250 4Matic and the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) also today unveiled a new W464 G-Class variant, in the form of the G 350 d. It is the current second generation Gelandewagen which will be sold in the country after the Mercedes-AMG G 63, which made its local debut in November 2018.

The G 350 d is powered by a 3.0-liter, in-line six-cylinder OM656 turbodiesel with two-stage turbocharger and Camtronic variable valve timing. In terms of power, the mill offers 281 hp (286 PS) from 3,400 rpm to 4,600 rpm and 600 Nm from 1,200 rpm to 3,200 rpm.

Power is sent to the wheels via a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic torque converter, with an all-wheel drive system providing a 40:60 torque split. Performance figures include a 0-100 km / h time of 7.4 seconds and a top speed of 199 km / h.

The G 350 d features a suspension with active damping adjustment, and active engine mounts are used in the diesel G-Wagen for the first time. These are set in a smoother mode at speeds below five km / h, and the mounts are automatically hardened at higher engine speeds to improve vibratory comfort and driving dynamics.

The driving modes are provided by Dynamic Select, with five driving modes providing different behavior of the engine, transmission, suspension and steering for different levels of sportiness.

Local specifications for the G 350 d, which rides on 20-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels, include an AMG Line exterior and an AMG Night package. The latter adds the darkened treatment for turn signals, reversing lights and headlights.

The package also featured the radiator grille louvers, spare wheel ring and bumper trim in obsidian black. Also included is a stainless steel package, consisting of running boards on the sides, door sills and rear sill guards in stainless steel.

Other parts include a silver bottom guard and exterior skid strip with a black striped trim insert, as well as Mercedes-Benz lettering brake calipers. Standard equipment includes multi-beam LED headlights, sunroof and heated windshield.

Inside, you’ll find a unique interior with black Dynamic headlining, fabric metallic trim, red seat belts and leather on the upper and lower dash panels, as well as red contrast top stitching. Plus, a Nappa leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, Comand Online, and a Burmester surround sound audio system.

As for the driver assistance and safety kit, the list is led by Active Brake Assist, which provides autonomous emergency braking. There’s also Distronic Active Distance Assist, Parktronic Parking Assist, and a reversing camera parking package, among other things.

The retail price of the fully imported G 350 d starts from RM999,888 (on the road without insurance), which is considerably cheaper than the AMG G 63, which sold for RM1,464,888 at launch in 2018.
