The STATE rulers left Istana Negara tonight after meeting for an hour and a half to discuss Putrajaya’s alleged plan to impose a state of emergency to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.
The vehicles, including the entourage carrying the Sultans of Selangor, Johor, Terengganu, Perak, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan and Perlis, left through the gate of the National Palace at around 5.30pm.
The meeting began at 2.30 pm and was chaired by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
The Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Muhammad V, however, did not appear at today’s meeting.
On Friday, after a special cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin presented the Perikatan Nasional government’s emergency proposal to the king, purportedly to address the deepening Covid-19 crisis that has affected the country.
However, he will also face a possible vote of no confidence when Parliament meets on November 2. The 2021 budget will be presented later in the week of November 6.
Critics accuse the prime minister of wanting to avoid such a scenario and cling to power by calling for an emergency, which would see Parliament suspended.
Earlier this morning, two civic groups that were against Muhyiddin’s motion to call for an emergency presented a memorandum to the agong.
The two groups later peacefully dispersed after delivering the letter to the king’s representative. – October 25, 2020.
