KUALA LUMPUR: The government agreed today to allow self-service laundries in areas under the Movement Control Order (MCO) to operate from 6 am to 8 pm.

Chief Minister (Security Group) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix), however, such operators of such laundry establishments must ensure that customers adhere to all standard operating procedures (SOPs) as a measure to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“Self-service laundries can operate on the condition that there is an employee present to monitor compliance with SOPs.

“Among them are checking customers’ body temperature before entering, scanning the MySejahtera QR code, wearing a mask, providing hand sanitizer and ensuring physical distancing,” he said today at a press conference about the development of MCO in the Ministry of Defense.

Ismail Sabri said that the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) would be monitoring compliance with SOPs in such dhobi stores.

The government had previously allowed laundries to operate in MCO areas, except for self-service laundries, as there was no monitoring on the premises.

The MCO was applied in six states, namely Penang, Selangor, Federal Territories (Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan), Melaka, Johor and Sabah from January 13 to 26. -Called
