KUALA LUMPUR: A 25-year-old man was arrested for obstructing police who were inspecting compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) at various business premises in Bangsar here, while five others were issued compounds for violating the warrant of conditional motion control (MCO).
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Zairulnizam Mohd Zainuddin @ Hilmi said that the compliance operations working group focused its operation on Jalan Telawi Bangsar on Saturday (October 15) evening.
“Compounds were issued to facility owners and customers who did not comply with the conditional MCO, including not registering using MySejahtera and not maintaining physical distancing.
“We found that 95% of people adhered to the SOPs. Action was taken on a few who did not,” he told reporters at the scene after the operation.
All seven police stations under Brickfields carried out simultaneous inspections Saturday night, he added.
“We have 26 monitoring teams that inspect compliance in the district,” he said.
ACP Zailrulnizam said that some people would appear to comply with standard operating procedures when the police were around, but would ignore them once the police turned their backs on them.
“Complying with the SOPs is for the good of all. It is for your safety,” he added.
Since the start of the conditional MCO, a roadblock has been installed near the Sentosa police station on the border with Petaling Jaya, ACP Zailrulnizam said.
“We also have two mobile barricades in the district.
“Our approach is to limit travel between districts, as only those with valid reasons can do so,” he added.
Since October 1,134 compounds have been issued in the district, including 70 compounds in Bangsar, he said.
“The compliance rate in the Brickfields Police District is around 95% to 98%.
“We hope the public will maintain good hygiene and comply with SOPs, including wearing face masks and maintaining physical detachment,” said ACP Zairulnizam.
